Tripping and Slipping

Accidents involving slips, trips and falls are very common and can result in serious injuries.

Such accidents can occur in:

Shops, restaurants, offices etc caused by wet or slippery floors, obstructions or defective surfaces. There is a duty of care on the part of owner/occupiers to keep their premises in a safe condition. If they fail to do this and you injure yourself as a result of this failure then you may have a claim against them/ their insures.

Footpaths, highways, roads, pavements. Responsibility for the upkeep of highways lies with the local authority or the owner of the land upon which they are to be found. There is a duty of care to maintain such areas free of dangerous defects. You may have a claim if you injure yourself as a result of a fall caused by a surface which is uneven, pitted or in a poor state of repair.

At work your employer has a statutory duty to ensure that you are safe from slips, trips or falls caused by slippery floor surfaces, obstructions, defective floor surfaces and other such causes.
